Course Description:The esthetician program consists of 600 clock hours of theory and practical skill development for licensure.Full-time students should be able to complete the program within 25 weeks.Courses in this program involve safety and sanitation, proper work habits, preparation to pass the Colorado State Board practical and written exams and competency to function effectively in entry-level positions as an esthetician/cosmetician, skin care specialist, or a related occupation.Classes are taught in English.Tutoring sessions are available in English-Vietnamese and English-Spanish to help students gain a better understanding of the course material.
Method of Instruction:The school uses a variety of instructional methods to teach classes including the use of audio and visual equipment, lectures, hands-on demonstrations and guest speakers.
Course Objectives & Goals:Upon completion of the course requirements, graduates will be able to:
Understand all sanitation, sterilization and safety precautions expected of estheticians.
Confidently perform basic skin care services as: facial massage techniques, skin treatments, makeup, and waxing.
Have knowledge in different types of products used, electrical equipment and light therapy.
Be familiarized with laws, rules and regulations required by the state.
Attain business management skills, ethics, interpersonal skills and salesmanship.

Grading Procedure:Academic progress will be measured by theory work (test grades, homework, etc.) and practical work.Theory and practical work will be graded according to the following scale:
90% - 100% AExcellent
80% - 89%BAbove average
70% - 79%CSatisfactory
69% or belowDUnsatisfactory
Students must maintain at least a 70% grade average in order to be considered making satisfactory progress.
Facial & Skin Care (210 clock hours) - (52.5 hrs Theory & 157.5 hrs Lab)Week 1-6
Anatomy and physiology, chemistry for estheticians, basics of electricity, physiology and histology of the
skin, skin disorders and diseases, skin analysis, product selection and ingredients, massage manipulation techniques, basic facials and treatments, machines.
Facial Makeup (30 clock hours) - (7.5 hrs Theory & 22.5 hrs Lab)Week 7-8
Cosmetics for facial makeup, makeup color theory, client consultation, corrective makeup, artificial
eyelashes, safety precautions, product selection and ingredients, application of cosmetics, sanitation and disinfection of cosmetic products.
Hair Removal (90 clock hours) - (22.5 hrs Theory & 67.5 hrs Lab)Week 9-11
Morphology of the hair, hair growth cycle, characteristics of hair growth, methods of hair removal, room preparation, client consultation, contraindications for hair removal, waxing, eyebrow tweezing, eyebrow
waxing, lip and chin waxing and body waxing.
